Bite Size Book Review: People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry

Quick Summary:

People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry follows Poppy and Alex, two long time friends who used to take vacations together every year. Things got complicated on one of their last trips together that altered their relationship. In an effort to save their friendship, Poppy devises a plan to take one more vacation with Alex.

Plot Overview:

The book flips back and forth between dual timelines, eventually getting to the trip where things changed for Poppy and Alex’s friendship. On top of understanding Poppy and Alex’s dynamic (a little bit of grumpy/sunshine going on), Poppy is trying to figure out her future and whether there is more underneath her yearn for constant wanderlust. Alex plays a big part in Poppy figuring out what she wants in life, as their friendship becomes the most valuable thing to her. She fears losing herself, whoever that is to her, and losing Alex.

Final Thoughts + Ratings:

People We Meet on Vacation is near and dear to my heart as it was one of the first romance novels I read that sparked my interest in this genre. Poppy and Alex are well written with their friendship maintaining a priority versus the romance. It’s a bit of a slow burn in that sense but in typical Emily Henry fashion, Poppy and Alex’s character development is the real focus, with their growing intimacy and romance forming as a result of that.

I enjoyed reading Poppy and Alex’s relationship evolve from a friendship to a relationship, as well as getting to experience Poppy essentially growing up through the pages.
